Charting Our History

A group of concerned business persons made application to the State Bank Department and received approval on December 8, 1945 with Bank Charter Number 690 being affixed to the Articles of Agreement and Incorporation of the Perry County Bank.

The first meeting of the Incorporators, Subscribers to the Capital Stock of The Perry County Bank of Perryville, Perry County, Arkansas was held at the office of the late H. E. Van Dalsem on December 14, 1945. There were 43 original men and women who became stockholders. Of those 43 stockholders, H. E. Van Dalsem was elected the first Chairman and B. J. Suffridge the first Secretary. The first directors elected to serve were: J. D. Farish, Dr. S. C. Gutowski, L. E. Jones, Joseph B. Lipsmeyer, B. J. Suffridge, D. O. Thomas, H. E. Van Dalsem and Paul Van Dalsem.

The Perry County Bank made a purchase from the First State Bank of Plainview for the furniture and fixtures that had been used by the Perryville office at a fee of $350.00, and H. E. Van Dalsem agreed to rent the newly found bank space in his office building for $15.00 per month.

The Board of Directors met on the 7th day of July 1949 and appointed a committee to move the Perry County Bank location to Court Square in downtown Perryville. On August 29, 1949 the Perry County Bank Board of Directors met and voted to secure land and to build a building. The proposed date of moving would be January 1, 1950.

The Bank and Board of Directors recognized the need for a drive-up window to better facilitate their customers and obtained approval from the city to move forward with the installation on February 10, 1979.

On December 6, 1985 a branch bank of the Perry County Bank opened for business. The location was Hwy 9, 10, & 60 East. As early as February 1990, after many years of planning and due to the rapid growth of the county and the bank, the Board of Directors voted to move their main facility from Court Square to the site of the branch location. The Board gave approval on June 6, 1992 and opened for business on April 6, 1993.

Due to the growth of the Perry County Bank and the desire to accommodate their customers, a branch is built and opened for business at Bigelow. The first day of business and grand opening was September 1, 1994.

With continued growth and success the Board of Directors again realized the need for expansion and on July 10, 1998, Perry County Bank opened for business in Conway County. The branch in Morrilton was operated as Conway County Bank.

As the growth of the bank continued and the bank topped $100 million in assets in 2000, the management, staff, and board of directors again addressed the banks position in our market area. The board of directors recognized the need to streamline the bank’s operations, introduce new and innovative products, and position the bank for continued growth and expansion.

In the early part of 2001, in order to position the bank for this growth, the board of directors approved the changing of the name of Perry County Bank to Chart Bank. The change was approved by the Arkansas State Bank Department in May of 2001.

On October 17, 2001, we announced to our customers the name of the bank at all three locations was now Chart Bank. We will take our heritage of community banking forward as we help you chart your financial future.
